An unscrupulous Denver lending company locked the Farmington couple into a one-year-long, $76-per-person, per-month contract that will cost them $1,668 on the pretext of clearing their credit record.

"We had some things on our record from a bankruptcy, and former spouses did a number on our credit," Kay Wilson said.

Access National Mortgage told the couple they had to clean up their credit record to improve their credit scores so they could proceed with their refinancing plans.

"They gave us the number of a credit-fixing company, and we signed a contract with them (United Credit Source) for $139 each month," Wilson said.

The Wilsons didn't know at the time that the practice is unscrupulous at best.
