It was a perfect image of domestic bliss: a man embracing a little boy while his smiling mother looked on. But the reality of the CCTV footage used against allegedly corrupt former Scorpions prosecutor Portia Kgantsi - the beaming woman in the images - was very different. Kgantsi's young son was actually being hugged by alleged Nigerian fraudster John Afolabi, the same man whose statements to the police would lead to the prosecutor's arrest during a sting operation only five days later. While the state claims that Kgantsi and her son visited Afolabi in the Sandton police cells as part of her corrupt efforts to secure bribes from him and his fellow fraud accused Djibril Issa Mohamedou, she is adamant that she took her son there so that he and the Nigerian could "talk soccer".
